If you have stretched a piercing up to 0ga, an 0ga circular barbell is a great choice. These large gauge circular barbells come in a wide choice of materials, colours and styles that make it easy to keep your piercings feeling and looking great.
0ga is a medium gauge size so wearing a circular barbell is still an option – when you get up to bigger gauges it might be impractical to wear this kind of jewellery. Circular barbells are quite a chunky piece of jewellery so it important to think about the weight of your 0ga circular barbell. If it is too heavy it could stretch the piercing over time, which you may or may not want. Personally I like to maintain a gauge once I have stretched up to it but some people like to stretch gradually this way.
Metal 10ga Circular Barbells
If you want a metal 0ga circular barbell you have a choice of titanium, surgical steel and blackline. These are the most popular metals for piercing jewellery and they are highly biocompatible. Titanium and blackline have a higher biocompatibility so if you suffer from metal allergies or irritation, I recommend opting for a titanium 0ga circular barbell.
Depending on their specific design, metal 0ga circular barbells can be quite heavy and stretch your piercing as mentioned above. For most people this stretching will be very slight but if the edges of your 0ga piercing are a little thin or there is not much flesh around the piercing, this could be an issue for you. If this is the case I recommend wearing a PMMA 0ga circular barbell instead.
PMMA 10ga Circular Barbells
PMMA is a variety of acrylic plastic and it’s an excellent material for large gauge circular barbells. It is a very lightweight, cheap material so a PMMA 0ga circular barbell is a great value choice. The lightweight of PMMA means that your circular barbell will not “drag†on your stretching and stretch it over time. It also puts less stress on the bottom of the piercing, which can weaken the fistula over time.
Another advantage of these 0ga circular barbells is that they will not irritate your skin like metal can. If you have metal allergies or sensitive skin you may notice irritation after wearing a metal 0ga circular barbell – this won’t happen with PMMA. For these reasons I like to wear PMMA circular barbells or tunnels in my stretched piercings to “give them a break†after wearing metal jewellery. It gives the skin a chance to relax and heal up any irritation.
