Amber Threaded Balls for Piercing Jewellery

Warm, glamorous and exotic, amber is a wonderful material for piercing jewellery. Amber is fossilized tree sap, a beautiful natural gemstone associated with the sun that is believed to have pain-relieving qualities. Our amber piercing jewellery is a lovely way to enjoy amber and bring some sunshine to your style. There are many different colours of amber, but as you can see it is usually a warm golden brown. The golden colour looks beautiful against your skin and has a soft quality unlike most normal piercing jewellery.

Amber is comfortable to wear against your skin, although I recommend waiting until your piercing is completely healed before wearing amber piercing jewellery. Below are some of my favourite amber pieces – alternatively you can add these threaded amber balls to any piece of threaded jewellery.

Amber Belly Button Piercing Jewellery

Show off your belly button piercing with one of these eye-catching amber belly bars. These belly bars come in styles that show off the colour of the stones and draw the eye to your piercing. The central and righthand designs use solid silver to highlight the amber alongside other gemstones, while the bar on the left gives you a lovely simple look.

Create a beautiful earthy look with one of these amber flesh plugs. The larger size of a flesh plug means that you can really see the quality of the amber. We have many different types and colours of amber but they all have the same warmth and depth of colour. Amber is chemically inert and non-irritating, but it is always best to play it safe and wait until your stretching is healed before wearing it. If you prefer titanium against your skin, I recommend the plug on the right – we also have two other titanium and amber designs, which you can view by clicking on this flesh plug.

Natural amber flesh plugs are comfortable to wear and they make a very stylish alternative to the usual metal and plastic plugs. Amber is the fossilised resin of conifer trees and most amber is over 40 million years old – definitely a bit different to your run of the mill stretching jewellery!

Amber is a beautiful material and personally I think it looks great as body jewellery. Amber flesh plugs come in a range of warm, natural colours that look very flattering. And when the light hits them, amber flesh plugs look even better – the way the glow in the light looks gorgeous. In terms of comfort, amber is a great material for flesh plugs. It is chemically inert, which means that it does not react or cause your skin to react. Amber is non-irritating and highly biocompatible, so it is recommended for people who find metal jewellery irritating. Amber is hard but it feels much nicer and ‘softer’ in your piercings than metal.

These are our standard amber flesh plugs and they have proved very popular. These are unflared plugs and at £11 they are an affordable option. As you can see, these amber flesh plugs have a lovely warm orange-yellow colour. They are quite translucent, so they catch the light and you can often see through them. They are made from natural Baltic amber so the colour will vary slightly between individual plugs. If you have never worn amber jewellery before and you want to experiment, I recommend purchasing a pair of these amber plugs.

Measuring your Barbell Bar

Barbell bars are measured in two places, the gauge (thickness) and length. The length of the barbell bar is measured between the two balls or accessories on each end, this is the area that corresponds to the distance between the two exit holes of your body piercing.

Our Amber flesh plugs come in different varieties, including Baltic Amber and Domincan Amber. Dominican Amber differentiates itself from Baltic amber by being nearly always transparent, and it has a higher number of fossil inclusions. Dominican amber can be found in many colors, besides the obvious amber. Yellow and honey colored are fairly common. There is also green amber in smaller quantities and the rare blue amber (fluorescent).

Amber began its’ incredible evoltion some hundred million years ago. In what was then subtropical climate, trees oozed resin which polymerisated over thousands of years to become a substance known as copal. During this phase, the molecules begin to cross chain link and form strong bonds. Copal contains many volatile oils in the form of turpenes. Over a period of many millions of years, the volatile oils which were trapped in the resin evaporate until Amber is formed.

Amber is considered chemically inert (unreactive) and so is widely used for body piercing jewellery items including Amber Barbells, Amber Bananabells, Amber Flesh Plugs, Amber Tapers, Amber Pendants and Threaded Accessories too! Mix and match our wide selection of jewellery for a truly stunning combination of natural Amber accessories.

Here is an article on the craftsmanship of organic body piercing jewellery, so you can see just how your unique, skillfully-designed piece of body jewellery has been created!

***

(Step 1)

The horn, wood, bone or shell is cut into workable size pieces depending on the size and shape of the jewellery design being made.

(Step 2)

A rough design outline is hand drawn onto the piece and then the rough shape is carved by hand using various tools suitable for the raw material. The tools include small saws, scrapers, drills and files.

(Step 3)

The next stage is to refine the shape and size using smaller and smaller hand files until it takes on a more recognizable shape and is measured for approximate gauge sizing.

(Step 4)

If the piece requires an inlay, this is done next using tiny chisels to carve the design into the plug or spiral.

(Step 5)

After the piece has taken on the correct shape and approximate size the hand sanding and hand polishing is begun. Different grades of sand paper are used starting with 120 grit, then 240 through 360 and 600 grit.

(Step 6)

After the piece has become very smooth we hand polish it using natural bees wax with a small amount of sand added and a strip of natural cotton cloth. The cotton strip is tied to a point at one end and the jewellery is rubbed back and forth along the length of cotton until a high lustre is achieved.

(Step 7)

The last step is to match the jewellery into pairs taking into consideration colour, shape, size and texture. The gauges are checked and each piece must pass quality control before being approved.

On average it takes 5 hours for experienced artisans to make a pair of organic plugs, organic hooks or organic tunnels.

Recommended Aftercare for Organic Body Jewellery

  • We recommend cleaning organics with a small amount of water and a natural soap.
  • Dry immediately after cleaning with clean cotton cloth. Do not dry them in direct sunlight.
  • To restore the lustre, polish with bees wax and a cotton cloth. Any small nicks or scratches can be sanded with 1000 grit sand paper.
  • Polish with natural bees wax (with a little fine sand mixed into it if you wish) and a cotton cloth.
  • We recommend wearing organic body jewellery in healed piercings only.
