Sometimes you just want to stand out from the crowd and violet contact lenses are a fabulous way to do just that. Violet is a great colour choice because no one has naturally violet eyes. So by wearing violet contacts you instant create an attention-grabbing look. That said, you can find some surprisingly natural-looking violet contact lenses, so you can create anything from a subtle hint of violet to bright neon colour!

Natural-Look Violet Contact Lenses

Although violet is not a naturally occurring eye colour, there are many lenses that use violet in a natural-looking way. They do this by mimicking the patterns and shading found in real eye colours like blue. The results can be stunning and give you beautiful eyes that really stand out. These are three of my favourite natural-look violet contact lenses. They all work with your natural eye colour to produce stunning eyes.

Fantasy Violet Contact Lenses

At the other end of the scale are these amazing fantasy contact lenses. These lenses are perfect for costumes and Halloween. There are endless designs to choose from but these are some of our best-selling violet contacts. The light violet colour is very arresting because it is lighter than most natural eye colours. These lenses really make a statement and will get you noticed anywhere!

Big Eye Contact Lenses

Big eye contact lenses are very popular and we have a brand new selection of these lenses, so no matter what your style, there is a big eye lens out there for you. Big eye lenses are designed to make your eyes look big and beautiful. They usually have a black outer ring and colour only round the outside of the lens. Another common feature is that big eye contact lenses often fade gently towards the centre. This means that they blend in with your natural eye colour and make your eye look much bigger and rounder. Big eye contact lenses originated in Japan and Korea but they are popular all over the world.

Calling all fans of gothic fashion, we have two brand new ranges of gothic contact lenses: Alchemy and UL13. Alchemy Gothic are famous for their gothic jewellery and now they have designed a great range of gothic contact lenses as well. Our new gothic lenses are all manufactured in the UK to ensure superior quality. They are yearly lenses, so you can wear them as many times as you like within one year of opening them. Personally I think we have a great choice of designs, from skulls and vampire lenses to retro designs and fantastic new colours.

Alchemy Gothic Contact Lenses

The main Alchemy range of contact lenses is dedicated to classic gothic motifs like skulls, crosses and dragons. It also features some surprisingly designs such as a beautiful raven contact lens inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s Nevermore. All the designs would be perfect for Halloween but the three shown below are my picks for maximum impact with your Halloween costume. I particularly love the Vampire Moon lenses and the way the bloody surface of the moon stands out.

how to put in contact lenses

At BJS we get lots of emails asking the best way to put in fashion contact lenses. It is actually quite straightforward to put in a pair of contact lenses, but it can seem daunting the first time. In this post I’ll show you my method for inserting fashion contact lenses. This is the method I was shown at my local opticians and is pretty standard, although you may find your own way of doing things after a couple of attempts. If you have never worn fashion contact lenses before I recommend reading a few different methods or if possible asking a friend to show you.

You will need a suitable location to do this in – somewhere well lit with a mirror over a smooth, clean surface e.g. a sink or counter. The reason I mention the surface under the mirror is in case you drop a contact lens. A smooth, clean surface will make it easier to find your lens. If you do drop a lens simply rinse it in plenty of contact lens solution until it looks clean. The first time you put in fashion contact lenses make sure you have plenty of time because it may take you a couple of attempts. Ideally you should be calm and relaxed, which is unlikely if you have to rush out the door in five minutes.

These instructions are for putting a contact lens into your right eye – for your left eye just use the opposite hand.

If you want to create a captivating look, glimmer contact lenses could be just what you are looking for. These stunning contact lenses make your eyes shine and add an extra dimension to any outfit. Glimmer contact lenses are made by Funky Eyes so they are great quality but also very affordable. They come in a range of natural-look colours that enhance and transform your natural eye colour.

What Are Glimmer Contact Lenses?

Glimmer contacts are contact lenses that have a subtle shimmer as well as the usual coloured design. This gives your eyes a very vibrant, dazzling look and adds a magical touch to your eye colour.  The overall effect is subtle but very alluring.

By wearing glimmer contact lenses you can add an extra special touch to any look. They are great for fancy dress but personally I like wearing them with regular clothes – they just light up your eyes! If you doing fancy dress I recommend adding glimmer contact lenses to witch, wizard and fairy costumes. They add an ethereal, slightly otherworldly feel to your eyes, perfect if you are supposed to be a magical creature.

Blue contact lenses have to be my favourite colour contacts – they look so cute and bright-eyed. Blue contacts are among our bestselling lenses and it’s easy to see why. They are almost universally flattering and suit any complexion. Blue lenses really open up the eye area and really refresh your face. This makes them perfect for a bright, wide-awake look. I love them for big nights out and fancy dress – they add a whole new aspect to your style.

Natural-Look Blue Contact Lenses

Thanks to the popularity of blue contacts it is relatively easy to find natural looking blue contact lenses. The key to making your blue contact lenses look convincing it choosing a lens that suits your natural colouring. Look at your natural eye colour and try to pick a blue that is in the same tonal range. For example if you have green or pale hazel eyes you will look best with a light sky blue or a grey-blue lens. If your eyes are a darker brown or black these light blue lenses will probably look unnatural, so a deeper blue with a black outer ring or violet tones will be more “natural”.
