BioFlex is a great material for piercing jewellery and BioFlex bars are one of the most versatile pieces of jewellery you can buy. They are barbells made of BioFlex, a revolutionary flexible material that feels great in your piercing and is surprisingly cheap to buy. BioFlex is a biocompatible plastic so it is very flexible, completely biocompatible and also has a non-stick quality. It bends with your body in order to reduce stress on your piercings and is very easy to clean, thanks to the non-stick finish. BioFlex can actually reduce healing times and I recommend it for any piercing that is often sore or irritated – put in a BioFlex bar and it will clear right up.
The biggest advantage is for tongue piercings. Because BioFlex is so flexible, it will not rub on your teeth and gums, so there is much less chance of gum recession or tooth chipping. I also found that there was no plaque build up – the only tongue jewellery I have used that managed this.
How To Use BioFlex Bars
As you can see below, BioFlex bars are usually sold with a fixed ball on one end – you will need to add a BioFlex or metal ball on the other end. You can also trim these bars to get the right fit – just use a pair of sharp scissors. When you get your BioFlex bar, insert it into your piercing and trim off the excess or measure it against an existing piece of jewellery before trimming.
BioFlex Bar Colours
Our BioFlex bars currently come in six colours, as you can see below. You can also buy these bars with a half ball, a flat labret stud end or as a plain bar with nothing on either end.
