Whether you are obsessed with James Cameron’s Pandora, can’t wait for Tron Legacy, an old-school sci-fi nerd or a dyed in the wool Trekkie, science fiction is set to be huge this summer. Right now we’re loving the idea of sci-fi contact lenses – Halloween contact lenses that will give you the metallic silver eyes of a cyborg, bionic eyes with electronic lenses, alien eye colours or the perfect Na’avi eyes.

There are lot of coloured contact lenses that can be used as part of a sci-fi Halloween costume or for your next cosplay get up. On the whole coloured contact lenses are very versatile and it is simply a question of matching up your chosen character’s eye colour with a lens that you can find online. Personally I love metallic silver contact lenses like the ones below. They make me think of modern sci-fi cyborgs – think Blade Runner’s replicants, Riddick in Pitch Black, Molly Millions and a whole host of Star Trek androids and sentient robots.

Types of Sci-Fi Contact Lenses

Technically any coloured contact lens could be part of a science fiction-inspired costume but certain lenses definitely lend themselves more to being “sci-fi contact lenses”. Silver contact lenses are perfect for robotic-themed costumes, cyberpunk and cyborg costumes. If you want to create the look of bionic eyes, the Cyborg and Bionic lenses below are just the ticket. They are both very similar to the bionic eyes sported by Geordi LaForge in later seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Avatar contact lenses are a great way to create an homage to the Na’avi and we also have White Screen Contact Lenses. These brand-new contacts have a fine grid design that covers up your iris and pupil – you can see out but to everyone else it looks as if there is a wire mesh covering your eye.

Rave Contact Lens Safety

Contact lenses are completely safe when worn and stored correctly, but if you are wearing rave contact lenses out clubbing or at a festival it’s easy to use them incorrectly. This could lead to an eye infection so it is important to take good care of your eyes and lenses at all times. Here are our rules for wearing rave contact lenses safely:

Do

  1. Store contact lenses in a contact lens case filled with solution
  2. Change the lens solution after each wear
  3. Wash your hands before handling lenses
  4. Discard any damaged contact lenses
  5. Remove lenses immediately if you experience irritation
  6. Stay hydrated – drink plenty of water

Don’t

  1. Share contact lenses with friends
  2. Wear contact lenses for more than 8 hours at a time
  3. Sleep while wearing contact lenses
  4. Avoid getting water in your eyes
  5. Attempt to put a split lens in your eye

Green contact lenses make it easy to get the beautiful green eyes you’ve always wanted – or just try them out for a day! Natural green eyes are quite rare in some parts of the world so as you would expect, green eyes are highly coveted. Personally I love the look of green eyes – they look so mysterious and alluring.

Green contact lenses are surprisingly easy to wear and suit a lot of different skin tones. If you have blue eyes, green contacts give a really intense look; while if you have naturally dark eyes, green contact lenses will light up your face and open up the eye area.

Natural Look Green Contact Lenses

If you want to create natural looking green eyes, here are plenty of great green colour contacts available. Look for a multi-tone green lens, like ColourVue’s Green Glamour and Green 3 Tone lenses. These lenses have a less “flat”, more natural look and come in colours specifically designed to look natural yet vibrant.

How convincing your green contacts will look also depends on your natural eye colour. Try to find a green contact lens that is on the same colour spectrum as your own eyes – if you have brown eyes look for lenses with a hazel undertone and if you have blue eyes, try and find a lens with a soft, clearer green. I suggest going for softer greens no matter what your natural eye colour – very strong or bright green contact lenses will always stand out more and can look less natural.

If you want big, adorable eyes you’ll love big eyes contact lenses! Big eyes contact lenses are a special kind of contact lens that makes your eye look bigger and cuter, just like an anime character. They make an instant impact and have become increasingly popular, especially for girls that want get a bright-eyed “kawaii” look.

What are Big Eyes Contact Lenses?

Big eye contact lenses use a clever yet simple design to make your whole eye look bigger, brighter and more defined. They have an enlarged black pupil that makes your eyes look instantly wider, brighter and glossier. They also use a thick black outer ring and clever shading, which makes your pupil and iris look enormous. The result is very impressive and cute. Big eyes contact lenses are perfect for everyday wear, parties and fancy dress. They are also great for cosplay because they imitate the big, round eyes of manga and anime characters.

Blue contact lenses have to be my favourite colour contacts – they look so cute and bright-eyed. Blue contacts are among our bestselling lenses and it’s easy to see why. They are almost universally flattering and suit any complexion. Blue lenses really open up the eye area and really refresh your face. This makes them perfect for a bright, wide-awake look. I love them for big nights out and fancy dress – they add a whole new aspect to your style.

Natural-Look Blue Contact Lenses

Thanks to the popularity of blue contacts it is relatively easy to find natural looking blue contact lenses. The key to making your blue contact lenses look convincing it choosing a lens that suits your natural colouring. Look at your natural eye colour and try to pick a blue that is in the same tonal range. For example if you have green or pale hazel eyes you will look best with a light sky blue or a grey-blue lens. If your eyes are a darker brown or black these light blue lenses will probably look unnatural, so a deeper blue with a black outer ring or violet tones will be more “natural”.
